Example
Aisha clocks in at 8:47 AM for an 8-hour day with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. She needs to be at work 8 hours 30 minutes, so she can leave at 5:17 PM.
Night shifts work the same way: in at 10:00 PM for 8 hours plus a 30-minute break means out at 6:30 AM, marked “+1 day”.
Finishing your week at 40 hours
On the last day of the week, switch to Finish my week. Enter your target (usually 40) and the hours you’ve worked so far, and the calculator tells you when to leave to hit the target exactly, without going into overtime.
With 32 hours 15 minutes done by Friday, you need 7 hours 45 minutes. Clocking in at 8:00 AM with a 30-minute lunch, you can leave at 4:15 PM. If you don’t know your total so far, add up your shifts in the time card calculator.
Which breaks to include
Only unpaid breaks, because you have to be at work for that extra time. Paid rest breaks of 5 to 20 minutes count as working time, so they don’t move your clock-out time. If your employer rounds punches to the quarter hour, your official time may differ by a few minutes.
